The area sits within Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with the famous 186-mile coastal path running directly through. Nearby attractions include Skomer Island (4.5/5 TripAdvisor) for puffin watching and St Davids Cathedral (4.8/5 TripAdvisor) just 12 miles north.
Welsh rugby legend Jonathan Davies reportedly owns a holiday home nearby, highlighting the area's appeal for those seeking privacy and stunning coastal views.

Sightseeing
Broad Haven sits perfectly positioned for exploring Pembrokeshire's best bits. The village itself offers that proper seaside feel without the tacky shops. I've found the beach here brilliant for families as it's got lifeguards in summer months and slopes gently into the sea.
Little Haven is just a 15-minute walk around the headland (accessible at low tide directly across the beach) and has three excellent pubs. The Swan (SA62 3UH) does fantastic food - their fish and chips scored 4.6/5 on TripAdvisor last time I checked.
St Davids, Britain's smallest city, lies just 12 miles north. The cathedral (SA62 6RD) dates back to the 12th century and opens 9am-5pm daily. Entry is free but they suggest a £5 donation. We recommend visiting early morning to avoid coach parties.
Skomer Island boat trips run from Martin's Haven (SA62 3BJ) between April and September. You must book tickets through the Wildlife Trust website as they sell out weeks ahead in puffin season (May-July). The island scores 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor with visitors praising the "incredible wildlife experience".
Pet Friendly
Dogs love Broad Haven almost as much as their owners do! The main beach has seasonal restrictions (banned 1st May to 30th September), but the northern section allows dogs year-round - just look for the signs marking the boundary.
The coastal path offers endless walking opportunities with your four-legged friend. The section to Nolton Haven takes about 2 hours return and has spectacular views. Pack water for your dog as there are limited drinking spots along the way.
The Galleon Inn (SA62 3JH) welcomes dogs in their bar area and even offers water bowls and treats. They're open 11am-11pm daily and serve food until 9pm. Their Sunday roast is particularly good after a morning beach walk.
Many cottages with hot tubs in Broad Haven accept pets, but always check specific rules. Some limit dogs to downstairs areas and most ask that dogs stay out of the hot tub - seems obvious but apparently needs saying!
Top 3 attractions you have to see in Broad Haven
Pembrokeshire Coastal Path: The section running through Broad Haven offers some of the most spectacular walking in Britain. Head south to Little Haven and beyond to Druidston for dramatic cliff views. The path is well-marked but wear proper footwear as it gets muddy after rain. One TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: "We saw seals, porpoises and a peregrine falcon all in one walk - absolutely magical."
Pembrokeshire Wake Park (SA62 4BS): Just 10 minutes' drive inland, this wakeboarding centre caters to complete beginners through to experts. They offer one-hour taster sessions from £35 including all equipment. Open April-October, 10am-6pm. Booking essential in summer months. Recent visitor feedback: "Brilliant instructors who had our teenagers standing up within 15 minutes. Great café too!"
Picton Castle & Gardens (SA62 4AS): This 13th-century castle surrounded by 40 acres of gardens makes a perfect day out when you need a break from the beach. Their woodland garden has some of the largest and oldest trees in Wales. Open daily 10am-5pm March-October. Adults £10, children £5. The restaurant serves excellent Welsh cakes according to many visitors.
Is Broad Haven suitable for young children?
Absolutely! The beach has a gentle slope making it safe for paddling and lifeguards patrol during summer months. The lack of arcade machines and tacky shops is actually a bonus for parents. The rock pools at the northern end provide hours of free entertainment hunting for crabs and shrimps.
When is the best time to visit Broad Haven?
June and September offer the perfect balance of decent weather without the crowds. Water temperature peaks in August (around 17°C). If you're coming for walking, April and May bring wildflowers along the coastal path. Winter visits have their own charm with storm-watching from your hot tub!
Can you surf at Broad Haven?
Yes! Broad Haven gets consistent waves suitable for beginners and intermediates. Haven Sports (SA62 3JH) offers board hire from £15 half-day and lessons from £35. The best surf conditions typically occur on incoming tides with westerly winds.
Where's the nearest supermarket to Broad Haven?
There's a small shop in the village for essentials, but for a proper shop, Haverfordwest (8 miles away) has Tesco, Morrisons and Aldi. Many cottages offer online delivery slots from these supermarkets - worth booking ahead for your arrival day.
Do I need a car in Broad Haven?
While not essential, a car makes exploring much easier. The 400 Puffin Shuttle bus runs along the coast road with services approximately every two hours in summer, less frequently in winter. Taxis from Haverfordwest cost around £20 one-way.
Is there good mobile reception and WiFi in Broad Haven?
Mobile coverage varies by network - EE and Vodafone generally work well in the village but can be patchy on the coastal path. Most cottages with hot tubs advertise WiFi, but speeds tend to be functional rather than lightning-fast - perfect excuse to digital detox!
